Our Local Area
THINGS TO DO, PLACES TO GO
There are lots of lovely walks straight from the hut, whether it’s a gentle stroll around Venford Reservoir or a full day hike across southern dartmoor. For an example take a look at the south dartmoor walks on www.divinedartmoorwalks.co.uk, we’re just on the edge of the Combestone Tor and Bench Tor walk. Within the huts you will also find a selection of laminated guided walks straight from the gate.
Where To Eat
We have four local pubs, 2 of which are walkable albeit it’s all downhill to get there and uphill to get back:
Further afield there are various cafes, restaurants and pubs in Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and surrounding areas, serving various meals including breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner depending on your requirements.
What To Do
We overlook the upper dart valley where both canoeing and wild swimming is very popular. Sharrah Pool, a 100m crystal clear stretch of the river dart is known as a great location for a wild swim. This can be accessed via a short car journey and approximately 40 minute walk up the river or you can walk straight from the hut with a more strenuous hike.
We’re approximately 50 minutes from the beautiful south devon coast. Bigbury, Dartmouth, Slapton and Torcross are some of our favourite coastal destinations.
